Real-World Experience

The Department of Art provides its students with challenges outside the classroom and studio to develop their skills and knowledge of the real world. Gaining practical experience in their discipline, art students have the opportunity to participate in an on-campus practicum and/or an off-campus internship.

Art and Design Practicums

Art practicums are available to qualified students in graphic design, photography, studio art, pre-art therapy, and museum studies. Practicums provide a practical experience in a supervised on-campus setting that specializes in the field of art or design. They precede an internship and prepare students to perform for employers outside the University community. Placements are available in the following areas:

  • UE Sports Information

    The practicum experience within the office of Sports Information is tailored to each student's career interests. A few examples include working a variety of sport games to gain experience in major event planning and execution, assisting in graphic design work, managing miscellaneous office tasks, and researching history and statistics.

  • Embrace Marketing and Communications

    Students may apply for positions with Embrace Marketing and Communications. A student-led marketing and communications agency, run by a team of students from several disciplines across campus.

Art and Design Internships

Internships are an excellent opportunity for students to prepare themselves for their careers after graduation as well as for graduate school. Internship experiences enhance the skills learned in the classroom and can occur either over the summer or during a semester.
